In 2025, the LDEM COMAR Regulations will be open for review after ten years in existence.  Historically, this "sunset review" is pivotal for such regulations, as it allows both the regulators and the regulated to recommend changes to the law without requiring legislative bills to be passed.

AIMM continues to seek financial and social support!  100% of your donations support:

  • maintaining our website, which continues to be a popular central signpost for the independent midwifery community and its consumers
  • paying our lobbyist, who represents and shepherds us in all legislative matters
  • possible upcoming legal support for the sunset review process

The Association of Independent Midwives of Maryland is a group of midwives who are working in the out-of-hospital (homebirth) setting throughout Maryland.  AIMM represents the legal, political and professional interests of its member independent midwives who are Certified Professional Midwives, Certified Nurse Midwives, and their students.  AIMM was formed in 2012 to move forward the legalization of Certified Professional Midwives and promote the recognition of homebirth midwifery as an autonomous profession.

More recent legislative objectives have been to advocate for the addition of Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) to the Maryland LDEM (Licensed Direct Entry Midwife) regulations.
