Our Vision

We envision a community of belonging both in our organization’s service region but also in the home communities from which we all originate. We dream that the healing work we do will become the intergenerational legacy our descendants will one day speak of.

How We Work

Rooted in Anishinaabe Bimaadiziwin (Anishinaabe lifeways), Minadjidiwin supports reconnecting or disconnected Native people build a sense of identity through community connection, art and culture, land-based activities, ancestral research, and travel to ancestral homelands.

Why mutual respect?

We believe the foundation of reconnection to Native culture should be rooted in respect - respect for our ancestors and descendants, respect for the living cultures we are related to, and respect for the intersectional identities our people possess. The settler colonial project has actively sought to separate Natives based on our differences, physical, cultural, and geographic, in order to prevent solidarity in our resistance to the theft of our lands. We believe that sharing in a mutual respect of our differences, we can build stronger communities and nations. But that mutual respect takes work. It means that us reconnecting Natives need to be prepared for the hard work of repair. It’s sometimes uncomfortable, and usually humbling, but the reward for building a foundation of reconnection in respect is often a sustainable and meaningful relationship with our communities of origin that will be felt for generations. The hard work is worth it.
