Mindful Kids Miami presents A Mindful Evening featuring keynote speaker David Lawrence, Jr., an exclusive performance by LA Philharmonic violinist, Rebecca Reale, and a sensory wine and cheese tasting in your home. ZOOM attire.
Whether you are new to Mindful Kids Miami or a long-time alumni of our programs, you are a special part of our MKM family and to the children we ultimately serve. Thank you for joining us to learn more about what we do and share in our commitment to building a more mindful world.
This year has proven to be a monumental challenge for so many of us. Even as our own resources were being squeezed, the growing need for accessible workshops and programs to help manage daily stress and anxiety was evident. In response, we opened our hearts and provided new offerings, free virtual classes, and scholarships to all in need of our programs. This fundraiser will help us cover critical operating expenses, such as rent and salaries, so we can continue being ever more present and available to you.
Please show your love for our faculty and staff by supporting us in whatever amount you are able. Our Full Experience tickets include a gift bag delivered to your door (Miami only) with wine and cheese to pair with our guided tasting during the event. Teachers are VIPs at Mindful Kids and enjoy discounted tickets. Anyone can purchase additional wine and cheese gift bags with our ADD ON option. (Don't forget to leave your delivery details.) I truly hope to see you all back here on the Zoom live event October 23rd.
With my warmest appreciation,
Sandy Skelaney | Executive Director
Research has demonstrated that children today are experiencing escalating levels of stress which impedes their ability to learn, impairs brain development, and affects behavior. Mindful Kids Miami, Inc. (MKM) is a tax-exempt, 501 (c)(3), non-profit corporation that is dedicated to bringing the benefits of mindfulness to children from early learners through the 12th grade in Miami-Dade County. Our vision is to improve the lives of all children in the community by giving them access to mindfulness skills which reduce stress and anxiety, enhance attention and focus, promote emotional regulation and impulse control, teach empathy and compassion, and create a sense of well-being.
MKM carries out its mission through providing mindfulness training programs to educators, early learning professionals, healthcare providers, social workers, and families. Our strategic approach is to build a culture of mindfulness within institutions, so that mindful attitudes and practices are integrated into environments that impact children daily and the benefits are sustainable over time. This two-pronged strategy utilizes our signature programs to, first, empower participants with their own mindfulness practice and then train them in age-appropriate skills and activities to share with children and youth they encounter.
We have 16 highly qualified faculty who teach programs ranging from workshops and community classes to 14-week courses for adults, children and organizations throughout the year. We have something for everyone. Check out a few of our programs!
Our upcoming programs for 2020-2021 build on the success of the past six school years. Since the launch of our groundbreaking partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools in 2015, Mindful Kids Miami has provided its core mindfulness trainings to more than 1,900 educators in the MDCPS system, and over 10,000 M-DCPS students and educators have received MKM mindfulness training through workshops and core trainings to date. In 2019-2020 school year, 1,800 people received the benefits of our mindfulness programs and workshops; 1,600 of those were educators and 1,300 were specifically M-DCPS educators.
This year in addition to continuing our work with educators and schools, we are also focusing on expanding our programs to more community-based organizations working with children and families and to underserved areas and vulnerable populations. Your contribution today will help us bring the benefits of mindfulness to school children, foster kids, survivors of abuse and trauma, and others for whom these practices can be life-changing.
