Guided by this vision, our founder, Mechelle Hollins Casey, has channeled her extensive expertise and deep-rooted compassion to build an organization that prioritizes the community's needs. Mechelle's personal journey and professional background in child welfare have fueled her unwavering commitment to serving families facing adversities throughout northern Lake County, Illinois, and beyond.

Inspired by her beloved mother's parting words, "DrinkWater, Mechelle," We will continue to be everyone’s need for the life-giving support and nurture the strength of families in need.

The Reality for Foster Families in Lake County

- 207 foster children in our community need safe spaces for family visits
- Many children experience court-mandated family visits in fast-food restaurants and parking lots
- Foster children are 7x more likely to experience depression and 6x more likely to exhibit behavioral problems

How We're Creating Change

DrinkWater Family Services is the only organization in Lake County providing:
- A safe, dignified space for foster family reunifications
- Educational workshops and parenting classes
- Mental health resources
- Dietary support and family wellness programs

All services are led by qualified experts dedicated to supporting families on their journey to reunification.

💙 We have organized over 1100 Hours of Parenting Time

💙 5 Families have been granted UNSUPERVISED rights by working with DrinkWater Family Services

💙 This year, we have completed 548 Parenting Hours, 29 hours short of surpassing last year's 577 Hours!

The Power of Dignified Reunification

"Foster children already in a fragile mental state undergo court-mandated family visitation in uncomfortable and awkward circumstances. These meetings typically take place in public settings, like fast-food restaurants and parking lots. Reunifications of this kind do not support children's wellbeing."
