Kristy Daphnis' Story

Over the past 10 years, I've been committed to volunteering my time to various causes that help support and advocate for youth in my community, including involvement with area PTAs, participating in drives to gather basic needs items for families in need, and co-leading a Girl Scout Troop that has sustained for 10 years and grown from 5 girls to over 40 girls.

In the past few years, my extended network of "kids" have gotten older. Those I've known since K or 1st grade are now in highschool! As I've had the opportunity to build long-standing relationships and status as an "extra-adult" in their lives, I've realized the struggles some of these kids face in just being themselves - and that is especially true for those kids who identify on the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

Because of these conversations & my desire to support something that will provide that space, to just "be themselves," I found the MoCo Pride Prom, and last year joined the Adult Planning Committee.

This year, part of my role is fundraising. We need to raise approximately $8k to make the MoCo Pride Prom a success this year. So, in addition to the restaurant nights and other events, I'm participating in this givebutter campaign!

Please consider donating, if only just a small amount! If you would like to be a corporate sponsor or have a matching opportunity with your company, email me! kristy.daphnis@gmail.com
