Move Birwood Forward: The Birwood Family Park Development Campaign

Move Birwood Forward is a community-powered campaign to complete Birwood Family Park, a resident-designed pocket park in Detroit that will transform two once-blighted lots into safe, active, and welcoming space for families, youth, and neighbors of all ages.
Led by A Place of Refuge Transitional Housing & Neighborhood Association, this park is more than green space—it’s a place for movement, connection, and belonging. The park will feature a basketball court, walkable green space, seating, and play areas, encouraging active lifestyles while strengthening neighborhood pride. Located less than a mile from the Joe Louis Greenway, Birwood Family Park will also serve as a neighborhood connector, expanding access to healthy outdoor activity.
This campaign supports the final phase of construction—the last step needed to open the park for full public use. Every donation helps pour concrete, plant trees, install equipment, and bring this space to life.

Your support helps:
• Create safe, free outdoor recreation in a disinvested neighborhood
• Support youth, families, and our residents
• Build a lasting community asset led by residents
Together, we can Move Birwood Forward—one step, one neighbor at a time.
