Story

HI! Im Serena (they/she). I am a Black and Japanese queer femme farmer who grew up in Portland. I am starting a farm this season through an incubator program supported by the East Multnomah County water and soil district on unceded Indigenous land. I am using this platform as a way for giving. I am asking for support  from the community to help with start up costs and living costs throughout the season. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Another Spring Farm and the many ways you can support.

Another Spring farm is working to feed the movement while understanding the intersection of our present moment. This work aims to nourish those who come in contact with us at any level. Creating space for us to work with the land, to feed and heal ourselves, to play among flowers and rest when full.  It is for People of Color, by People of Color.  Another spring farm believes in the liberation of all peoples who have been oppressed and marginalized in our current systems. We are working towards this liberation through food, knowing that it is just one way that we can empower ourselves as a community outside of current oppressive systems. We are doing this work on stolen Native land and stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples and farmers working for sovereignty. Another Spring farm acknowledges the learning that is continually taking place within growth and is striving for growth in our food, medicines and community. Thank you for being a part of this journey.

I intend to use 5,000 of the raised funds towards start up costs which include seeds, seeder, irrigation supplies, row cover and ground cover, trays for seeding, insurance, amendments, and basic tools needed.

The rest of the funds will go straight into the farm finances in hopes to generate enough cushion to grow the farm and and stay focused and aligned with our mission. This means feeding our QTBIPOC community at no cost.  It also means working to hire Black and Brown farmers with equitable pay. This fundraiser is meant to achieve these goals.  So that we can continue growing a nourished and fulfilled QTBIPOC community in Portland.  I am creating this fundraiser not only for financial support which is arguably one of the driving factors of so much that we do in our current system, but also to exist outside that system in a community of mutual aid.  I hope to reach more people through this fundraiser and create a system of giving so that I too have the space to give back.

You can also sign up for a CSA share or sponsor a share for a BIPOC, Black/Indigenous, family. Buying a share or sponsoring a share is the best thing to do to support the start and growth of Another Spring and by doing this you are becoming a part of the Another Spring farm community. Learn more about CSA shares on our website when it goes live Feb 19th!!!

Please be in touch with any questions and follow the adventure through social media.

Thank you sooo much and I look forward to growing with you all! <3
