As we look ahead to 2025, we remain fiercely committed to the future of health and sustainability. The movement for climate action, health equity, and sustainability has never been stronger, and medical students are at the forefront of this crucial work as patient and public health advocates. In recent years, we have witnessed extraordinary student-driven educational initiatives, research, and institutional advocacy with profound ripple effects that have touched state, national, and international audiences. Medical students feel the visceral urgency of addressing climate change as a health emergency, and Medical Students for a Sustainable Future represents the largest coalition of medical students in the world specifically dedicated to combating the health consequences of climate change. As the future leaders of healthcare, we are committed to integrating climate action into our careers, and we understand that the time to act is now.

However, as our organization’s momentum builds, we also see climate change intensifying as an existential threat. Our continued dependence on fossil fuels, record-setting heat, increased wildfires, more frequent extreme weather events, and loss of biodiversity all signal we are approaching critical ecological tipping points.

Sessions encompass topics ranging from cutting-edge research, to regional coalition-building, to career development grounded in climate and health equity. We will explore how our work can be force multipliers in both bolstering careers and advancing sustainability. We know that research is not just an academic pursuit but a vital tool for driving meaningful policy and healthcare practice change in healthcare and the broader community.

Importantly, this event is by and for the students. We know the students will continue this work long a[er the event ends.
