MSF Back 2 School Program
Equipping Students for Success: The MSF Back 2 School Program
For over a decade, the Myles Singleton Foundation has been turning back-to-school anxiety into excitement through our comprehensive Back 2 School Program. What began as a modest donation of 13 book bags in 2013 has blossomed into a multi-state initiative that addresses not just educational supplies, but also student wellbeing, confidence, and safety.
More Than Just Supplies: A Holistic Approach
Our Back 2 School Program goes beyond traditional supply drives. We've created a comprehensive support system that includes:
-
School Supply Distribution: From book bags and notebooks to calculators and uniforms, MSF ensures students have the tools they need to succeed.
-
Personal Care Packages: Understanding that confidence affects learning, we provide hygiene products with inspirational messages to middle and high school students.
-
Anti-Bullying Campaigns: Since 2015, we've incorporated educational components to create safer school environments, distributing thousands of anti-bullying resources.
-
Free Haircuts: Thanks to dedicated volunteers like Markus Wingfield of Mark & Company Barber Shop, who has participated from the very start of the program in 2013, students can start school looking and feeling their best.
Growing Our Reach: Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida
What started in Barrow County, Georgia has expanded to multiple communities across three states:
-
In Georgia: From 13 book bags in 2013 to contributing to events that distribute 1,500 filled book bags, our Georgia initiative continues to grow each year.
-
In Louisiana: Our program in Donaldsonville provides not just supplies but also uniforms and anti-bullying resources to elementary, middle, and high schools.
-
In Florida: Our partnership with Pine Manor United Way House in Fort Myers ensures Florida students have the supplies they need for academic success.
Adapting Through Challenges
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, MSF found ways to continue supporting students by shipping supplies directly to communities in need and providing monetary donations to our partner organizations.
The Voices Behind Our Impact
Our volunteers see firsthand the difference these initiatives make. MSF volunteer Cher described her experience with the anti-bullying campaign: "I wanted the children to recognize that they have seen bullying, whether they were the bully or the victim. I wanted them to realize that bullying is not okay, and that they could help make a difference."
MSF Junior, Ty James, expressed the profound feeling of service: "It was weird, even though I helped a few people, I felt like I was helping the whole entire world!"
Community Gratitude
Our partner organizations consistently express their appreciation for MSF's contributions:
"Thank you for your very important part in making the Barrow County School System's 2024 Bookbag & School Supplies Drive a tremendous success... Thank you again for getting our school year off to a great start for so many BCSS students & families!" - Ellen Petree, Barrow County School & Community Relations Specialist
"Your generous gift to the Pine Manor Improvement Association says everything there is to know about your kind and compassionate heart... Your caring and loving heart is making the future brighter [for] the Pine Manor students returning to school this fall." - Shari Clark, Pine Manor Neighborhood Resource Specialist
Looking Forward
As we continue to grow, the Myles Singleton Foundation remains committed to expanding our Back 2 School Program to reach more students in need. From our humble beginnings to now serving communities across multiple states, we've shown that when communities come together, we can equip students not just with supplies, but with confidence, safety resources, and the knowledge that their community stands behind them.
Through your support, we can continue to ensure that every student walks into their classroom prepared, confident, and ready to learn.
