We are launching our 2021 Year-End campaign on GIVING TUESDAY, November 30, and we hope you will help us to continue and to expand our programs in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and California.

We are proud to announce that, through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts’ “Arts Education Special Initiative” (AESI) we are funded to provide six cycles of Voices of Empowerment for teens in juvenile detention centers. This is a $30,000 matching grant and we ask your generous help in providing the matching funds. With your partnership, we can reach this year’s goal of $50,000: $30,000 to match the AESI programs and $20,000 to expand our other programs.

Let me tell you a little about some of the good things that have happened during a challenging year. We have been able to fulfill all of our program commitments through a combination of outdoor performances, Zoom sessions, video recordings, television broadcasts, and live in-person presentations, masked and distanced.

With help from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and many individual donations, we have been able to reach new populations, helping people to cope with the challenges of COVID-19. We have played interactive programs for the staff of facilities impacted by the pandemic, and for people whose families are affected. Hearing live music and participating in our programs has played a genuine role in helping so many people to heal.

Starting very soon, a group of six children living in a homeless shelter will collaborate with two MFAS musicians to write a new song. The six new sessions of Voices of Empowerment plus the two new sessions in homeless shelters will be added to our rich and varied roster of programs, in addition to our ongoing Voices of Valor sessions for veterans in New York and New Jersey, and our MFAS programs in many institutions including children in shelters for victims of domestic violence, senior centers, hospitals and hospices, nursing homes, and many other locations. Once again, Channel 35 in Cranford has filmed and broadcast our programs to the residents of Cranford Senior Housing and to the community.

This year, all donors of $250 and above will be entered into a drawing for a program in your name by MFAS musicians in the facility or location of your choice (which could be your own home!).
