Please join us on April 5th for a benefit concert supporting two Fort Greene fixtures: the Brooklyn Music School and Brooklyn Moon Cafe.

This event will feature special guest artists such as ESREAC (featuring Mark Kelley from The Roots and the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon), legendary turntablist DJ Logic, members of Living Colour, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Emanuel Casablanca, poet Sharrif Simmons, DJ and producer CX KiDTRONiK, award-winning poet Carl Hancock Rux, Emmy award winning actor Jeffrey Wright, and more.

Beer, wine, and light fare will be available for purchase courtesy of Greenpoint Beer & Ale Co. and Tosh's Patties.

About Brooklyn Moon Cafe

Brooklyn Moon, a Caribbean-American Soul Food fusion spot nestled in Fort Greene
since 1995, stood as a beacon of community and culture. At the heart of the 1990s
Brooklyn Renaissance, it served as a creative hub, hosting performances by legends like
Erykah Badu and Mos Def. More recently, Brooklyn Moon showcased artists through its revolving Gallery and lively events like open mics and jazz nights, and fostered community spirit through initiatives like Brooklyn For Life, which provided aid during COVID-19. Unfortunately, the Moon was forced to close after a series of struggles during and following the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are currently seeking support to reopen our doors and continue our legacy of supporting artists and culture, and feeding our community. Brooklyn Moon is more than a restaurant - it’s a cultural hub where food, art, and community converge, creating a home away from home for all who visit.

About Brooklyn Music School

Brooklyn Music School is a community school for the performing arts, founded in 1909 as the Brooklyn Music School Settlement. The school was founded by immigrants for whom music performance and appreciation was an essential part of life, and who wished to spread music and performance to a broader audience of new Americans.

Today, Brooklyn is a magnet for people from around the world, both musicians seeking new audiences and families seeking a better life. Our organization continues to stay true to our heritage of building communities through the joy and appreciation of music.

We own and operate a historic four-story building in the vibrant Fort Greene neighborhood that contains twenty-four classrooms, two dance studios, and a professional 266-seat Spanish-style theatre. Brooklyn Music School is a long-standing member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts. BMS's student population is representative of our community and includes students from a wide variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Our organization provides financial aid to make musical instruction affordable to families and children regardless of their resources. All students are given a solid foundation and develop healthy habits and self-confidence.

We provide access to the performing arts regardless of income, age, previous experience, or professional aspirations. Through this, we seek to help those whose artistic voices are least often heard.
