The Illinois music therapy community has been celebrating incredible milestones and it is now time to ask for your help in supporting them! In May of 2022, the Music Therapy Licensing and Practice Act was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker. In October 2024, our license application was one of the first launched with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's new licensing platform. Board Certified Music Therapists are now Licensed Professional Music Therapists (LPMT) in the State of Illinois! This accomplishment introduced additional costs for music therapists in the state and the Illinois Association for Music Therapy (IAMT) aims to assist music therapists in offsetting these expenses so that financial barriers do not hinder their impactful work. Please consider donating to IAMT to support this endeavor and ensure that music therapy services continue to reach those who need them most: our clients.
Because of the passing of our license, in June of 2024, music therapy was added as a covered service in the Medicaid Omnibus package starting in July 2025. This means that Illinois is the first state in the country to be reimbursed on traditional Medicaid and not a Medicaid waiver!
We at IAMT strive to promote the benefits of music therapy, increase access to services provided by licensed music therapists, and support music therapists in their mission to do the work they love with minimal barriers.
As you can see, our community has a lot to celebrate and a lot of work to do in the coming years to support these milestones. We are kindly asking for your donation to support LPMTs and the work we do in our communities. The more LPMTs in Illinois, the more individuals and families are being impacted by music therapy. Your donation can change lives!
