Mutual Aid for Dismissed Federal Employees

For the past few weeks, with even more cuts to federal organizations looming, I have watched many of my friends and colleagues live in fear, sadness and with confusion. Some are career government employees - they sacrificed a large paycheck when we graduated from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University back in the 90s. Some just entered the workforce and were so proud to be in a career where they are doing what they love - being of service to the community, to nature, to animals. Some have been working for decades on research projects that are now paused, their life's work essentially abruptly gone.

Besides having empathy and, of course, researching out to people within your own communities locally that you can help directly, Pandemic of Love is facilitating one-time grants to assist dismissed federal workers with essential costs as they recalibrate and grieve, and then try to find new sources of income. Grants will range from $2000-$5000 and will assist individuals in need who have no savings or means to pay for housing, medical costs (e.g. COBRA), transportation, utilities, etc.

Individuals are vetted fully and are personally known by POL volunteers. Those who feel comfortable sharing their stories will be highlighted in updates online and here.

Thank you for your support and for showing up for these dedicated individuals who are the fabric of our society and democracy.
