HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The full production budget for MoonFall was $75,350. It was an amazing show run and we are so glad we were able to do it in May 2024! Now, we need your support to be able to continue making interactive, immersive collaborations next season. Our revised goal includes paying back Density512 and Red Nightfall Dance Theatre for the loan we contributed from our organizations' operating budgets and savings to produce MoonFall. Once we pay back this loan, both organizations will be in good position to continue with new programming next season. We are eager to create new dance films, immersive musical experiences, and more! By paying this back with your help, we can ensure our organizations are able to recover from MoonFall and create new works in the 2024-2025 season and beyond!

The production budget for MoonFall is funded by the generous support of over 60 donors like you from $5 to $5,000, one production underwriter, City of Austin Elevate grant funding, ticket sales, preview events, and donations at the Tavern and Adventure Shop during the show run, we have raised and earned over $60,000 toward this full production budget. 20% of expenses at the time of production were paid by a loan from the Red NightFall Dance Theatre and Density512.

WHAT IS MOONFALL?

MoonFall is a new immersive and interactive mythic fantasy ballet that explores desire, climate change, community, and our relationship with the cosmos. At times poignant and at others delightful, MoonFall tells a story of the Sun and Moon’s dualistic orbit and the humans whose movements push and pull on their natural world. MoonFall is the brainchild of international dancer, choreographer, and producer Dorothy O’Shea Overbey and award-winning cinematic composer Sam Lipman, with immersive projections by interdisciplinary artist Yuliya Lanina, produced by Kenzie Slottow. This innovative new theatrical experience is presented by two Austin arts organizations - Density512 and Red Nightfall Dance Theatre - and features 12 local Austin professional dancers and a live chamber orchestra of 13 Austin musicians.

WHO IS MOONFALL FOR?

MoonFall is for dance and classical music buffs, theatre-lovers, readers and players of fantasy, and world citizens of all ages! Guests were invited to attend in fantasy attire if inspired, and step into the realm of MoonFall half an hour before the show begins to experience optional activities that will influence the ballet. They could learn movements to become followers of the Sun, cast a spell with some friends, or prepare for their journey at the Adventurer’s Shop and Tavern! At key points in the story, the audience helped to move the story forward!

MoonFall bridges classical and contemporary styles and blurs the barrier between audiences and performers. Act 2 featured three synchronous scenes, each taking place in a separate space. Audiences chose where to begin, and were then led from space to space by our Town Criers!

dadaLab

MoonFall premiered May 10-11th, and May 16-18th, 2024, at the central East Austin location of the innovative performance space, dadaLab. With a focus on light and sound installations, dadaLab constantly pushes the boundaries of immersive design, blending art with science and technology.

We're committed to making MoonFall accessible and welcoming to many Austin communities and individuals - dadaLab is a single-story building with a ramp to the entrance, and wide doorways.

WHO ARE WE?

Density512 is a new music chamber orchestra collective that seeks to build inclusive community and partnerships through music and storytelling. Our aim is to tell stories from across our community and those that are reflective of the diversity of experiences that are held by our collective members, collaborators, and broader community members. Density512 has given more than 30 world premiere music performances, and reached over 100,000 people through digital, radio and television performances. Red Nightfall Dance Theatre, specializing in crafting immersive experiences through film and dance/theater performance, has engaged over 300 University of Texas students in performance and collaboration, and employed more than 200 professional performing artists, designers and collaborators since 2017.

Since 2017, our organizations have collectively reached over 14,000 audience members across Texas. We are committed to creating new work that defies conventional categorization, and building inclusive community and partnerships through music, dance and collaborative storytelling.
