New Neighbors Mutual Aid Fund
The New Neighbors Mutual Aid Fund was created out of the immediate and dire needs for our immigrant neighbors in the Northland. Many families have been sheltering in place because of the targeted threat of kidnapping and detainment by federal immigration officers and no sense of safety or normalcy has returned to many who need to pay rent and bills. This mutual aid fund will directly benefit our immigrant neighbors by paying their rent and utility expenses.
How are individuals and families identified?
The Duluth area has a network of individuals who are working directly with immigrants and their families to ensure their safety and well-being. Through our connection with them and other trusted community networks, we are able to determine immediate individual needs for our new neighbors. All services are confidential to protect beneficiaries.
How do I know where my donation is going?
YWCA Duluth is adamant about transparency. Our website will be updated monthly to reflect the amount we've received in the New Neighbors Mutual Aid Fund and how much we've given out to the community. The number of individuals served will be noted as well as the areas of support given. If there is money leftover in the fund at the end of the month, it will be rolled over to the following month. YWCA Duluth will not retain any funds for any purpose. The money received will be less processing fees unless the donor chooses to cover the fees at checkout.
Is this a long-term mutual aid fund?
We commit to supporting our immigrant neighbors as long as needed. This mutual aid fund is one effort made by our organization to address the unfair practices by our federal government in targeting non-white residents.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes! Because this is a mutual aid fund that passes through YWCA Duluth, it is considered tax-deductible.
