Story

New Mexico Legal Aid's programs provide free civil legal services to low-income residents who are facing life-changing problems, including homelessness, custody disputes, fraud, or termination of benefits. Often, issues are interrelated, and one problem leads to another.

One in three Americans today are eligible for legal aid, but because of lack of funding, two out of three who seek it have to be turned away. While the government is still the largest funder of civil legal aid, the need has overwhelmed the resources directed to it -- you can help.

We would like to invite you to get involved. Your investment in NMLA gets at the roots of poverty and empowers thousands of New Mexicans to help themselves build a more secure and stable future. Thank you for making a difference!

New Mexico Legal Aid, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving New Mexico's low-income residents. Contributions to NMLA are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
New Mexico Legal Aid is funded in part by the Legal Services Corporation. Due to the funding it receives from LSC, it is restricted from engaging in certain activities in all of its legal work, including work supported by other funding sources. New Mexico Legal Aid may not expend any funds for any activity prohibited by the Legal Services Corporation Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2996 et seq. or by Public Law 104-134. Public Law 104-134 § 504(d) requires that notice of these restrictions be given to all funders of programs funded by the Legal Services Corporation. For a copy of these laws or for any other information or clarifications, please contact New Mexico Legal Aid.
