Add to Calendar 2023-07-31 20:59:00 America/Los_Angeles Enter to Win Flights Courtesy of Delta Air Lines! One lucky winner (raffle ticket) will be selected at random to win two round-trip domestic flights (within the contiguous U.S.). Likewise, one lucky winner (raffle ticket) will be selected at random to win a round-trip international flight (U.S. to Asia or U.S. to Europe). Each $20 raffle ticket represents one chance to win. While Givebutter caps the number of tickets in a single transaction at 10, you may purchase as many raffle tickets as you like. Simply revisit givebutter.com/npj for follow-up purchases. As with general donations, you may credit your school "team" and/or an individual fundraiser. All proceeds will go to the NP:J fundraising campaign. Donations received prior to the raffle's announcement on May 31, 2023 will also be treated as raffle ticket purchases. To determine the number of tickets in these cases, the total donation will be divided by the cost of one raffle ticket ($20). Raffle ticket sales will close July 31, 2023, and the drawing will be held August 1, 2023—the day after the overall fundraising campaign is set to end. .... You must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia to enter this raffle. The raffle is not open to employees of PAX Laurasian Exchange.

Story

Fuel Surcharges Jeopardize NP:J Program's Future

Looking out beyond summer 2023 tours, the future of New Perspectives: Japan (NP:J), the oldest and largest school-to-school Japan study-travel program, is in the balance. Dramatically increased airfares and Ukraine-war-caused fuel surcharges have left a $200,000 shortfall in NP:J’s budget—this, even after building in 30% increases for expected airfare hikes. In fact, the final quotes for airfare alone would have been spot on. Unfortunately, every ticket now has an additional, extraordinary fuel surcharge of nearly $600 on top of the price of each student’s ticket.

The program cannot sustain such a significant loss—we need your help!

About NP:J

Since 1992, NP:J has provided American students and their teachers the opportunity to delve deep into themes of Japanese language, history, society, and culture through a 2-week exchange program with a host school in Japan. Paused for 3 excruciating cycles due to COVID travel restrictions, we’re back this summer with an eager cohort of 350+ participants—some waiting since 2019!

NP:J’s 30 Years of Exchange

  • 5,000 U.S. Student Alumni
  • 150+ U.S. Middle and High Schools
  • 32 U.S. States
  • 5,000 Japanese Host Families
  • 130+ Japanese Host Schools
  • 200,000+ Japanese Students Engaged

Summer 2023 School Groups = Fundraising “Teams”

Our 350+ participants are spread out across 20 middle and high schools. Located throughout the U.S., these groups are fundraising right here on this campaign webpage!

The 3 schools that raise the most funds will secure scholarships for future NP:J tours in the amounts outlined below. So, just as many of our summer 2023 teens have benefited from the Jackson Bailey Scholarship ($75,000 in total scholarships awarded this year), they’ll be making this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity available for a fellow student at their school!

  • 1st Place: $5,000
  • 2nd Place: $3,000
  • 3rd Place: $1,000

Additionally, the top 3 teams will also enjoy an extra special perk during their 2-week stay in Japan this summer. We’ll be speaking directly with the lead teachers to determine what would be a good incentive for their particular group, based on their individual NP:J itinerary.

Needless to say, make sure you give credit to whichever school you may be connected to—even if it’s by way of a friend of a friend.

NP:J is a Program of Laurasian Institution

At our not-for-profit organization, we believe in the long-term value of grassroots-level engagements across cultures and the profound impact they can have on the U.S.-Japan relationship. Every one of our NP:J students becomes a citizen diplomat as they learn about the culture of Japan and take on a New Perspective. Your assistance at this critical time will help make this important opportunity possible for future American teens.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
