My name is Lydia and I've been accepted as a student for Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival studying piano and singing. I will be spending a month on the campus of Valparaiso University in Indiana this coming July.

My family is super musical and has impacted my life and love for music. My grandmother is the choral and handbell choir director at my church as well as the organist. My aunt is also a very gifted musician. My grandmother has taught my brother and sister and me piano ever since I can remember. She involved us in church where I play the piano and occasionally play in the handbell choir. I am also involved in our church youth group.

I have performed in many of my grandmother’s music studio recitals. In succession with piano, I have played the ukulele, guitar, and trumpet. I am currently playing the piano in the high school jazz band and the alto saxophone in the marching and concert bands. Although piano is my favorite instrument I am also interested in learning something new by being in the choir at LSM.

I feel that LSM is such a cool opportunity that I wouldn't want to miss. I think that by going to LSM for a month I will be able to gain more confidence in my music, and learn so much from all the people around me. I hope that by trying something new like this, where I am possibly out of my comfort zone, I may be able to be more comfortable in my own skin and enjoy myself with the people around me who are similar to me.

My family has paid the deposit for LSM, and our remaining cost is $2,470 for the four-week program. I am raising money to help my family better afford this experience. Thank you for your generosity and for your prayers!

Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival (LSM) is the nation’s premier faith-based music academy for high school students. In addition to advanced musical instruction and numerous performance opportunities, LSM students form an intentional community, living together for four weeks on a Lutheran college campus. Since 1981, this unique and immersive program has guided the lives of young musicians who credit LSM as the starting place for their future careers and vocations.

LSM was founded to celebrate and extend the rich musical heritage of the Lutheran church. Our founders believed that by providing high-quality training and performance opportunities to young musicians they could cultivate a lifelong love of classical and sacred music, thus preserving these art forms for generations to come.
