Empowering Education Fund Seeks to Cultivate the Next Generation of Thoughtful Leaders Through Mentorship and Community Engagement in Oceanside, NY, NYC, and Durham, NC

About the Founder: Hi, my name is Andrew Carlins, and I am a proud Oceanside High School graduate class of 2017. Since graduating Oceanside High School, I have worked with migrant/newcomer populations and nonprofit organisations across the US, Europe, and the Middle East to increase access to equitable education, healthcare, and employment. I have also taught ethics courses to students across five generations. I am passionate about community-centered change and empowering underrepresented students to reach their greatest potential. It was with this background and passion that I decided to create the Empowering Education Fellowship. I am excited to see the impact that this Fellowship can create for public school systems and their communities!

Our mission is to promote stronger communities by creating a network of support for current middle and high school students, high school alumni, and their communities.

The Empowering Education Fellowship seeks high achieving sophomores, juniors and seniors in public high schools interested in making a difference in their community through promoting equity in education.
The Fellowship involves two-directional mentoring where Fellows are mentored by alumni from their high school or college students in their community, and they simultaneously mentor their community's middle school students.
Given the fellowship’s mission and structure, high school students who are newcomers/first-generation, cannot afford private college counseling, and/or whose parents did not graduate from an American college/university would likely benefit the most from what the Fellowship offers.

We seek your help through this campaign to raise funds for our Fellows to pursue their goals and give a direction to their career paths through effective leadership and mentorship. Our aim is to raise $6,000 for this year to support 5 high school students to pursue their passion and dream college. Will you help us?
