FUND OAKLASH 2021, THE BAY AREA'S ONLY DRAG FESTIVAL!
HELP US FUND QUEER TRANS & POC ART AND FESTIVAL ACCESSIBILITY!
Oaklash is the Bay Area's largest, longest-running, multi-platform drag and queer performance festival. Oaklash is a community-based drag festival that uplifts queer creativity and specifically supports queer and trans performers of color.
This year's festival will feature a full weekend of NON STOP DRAG including digital drag, live broadcast performance, music, DJs, and panels! Kings, queens, and inbetweens from all over the Bay Area and beyond will come together for this virtual celebration of queer culture. Oaklash 2021 will be taking place from Friday, May 28 - Sunday, May 30, live on twitch.tv/oaklash2021
Two of our guiding principles at Oaklash are performer pay equity and accessibility. We are fundraising to pay our performers and panelists what they are worth and to make Oaklash 2021 the most accessible one yet! That’s why we have set our sights on raising $20,000. We are committed to paying every participant and that is directly related to our community-based fundraising. That’s what your donations provide. Since our founding in 2018, we have put over $25,000 directly into the hands of queer artists. This year our budget for artists and performers is over $10,000 alone!
We want to to raise the bar for drag performers and build a robust, accessible infrastructure to resource the drag and queer performance community, authentically. 100% of your donation goes directly towards supporting closed-captioning on all pre-recorded video content, sign-language interpreters for our panels and mainstage events, and paying over 100 talented performers, artists, panelists, and staff who are working to make this year’s festival a reality.
Boundary-pushing drag performers of every race, gender, aesthetic, and ability are represented on our stages. That’s 50+ hours of streaming drag celebrating the diversity of cultures represented in the rich and abundant drag scene of the Bay Area and beyond.
Please consider contributing or sharing today! Whether you are queer, an ally, a performer, or a lover of drag, this is our community and it is up to us to nurture it!
Our dream is to hit our goal of $20K before the Festival begins on May 28!!
Learn More About Oaklash
Founded by Beatrix LaHaine and Mama Celeste in 2018, Oaklash has featured more than 300 queer performers and artists from the Bay Area and all around the world.
Oaklash is dedicated to building new and ever-expanding stages to showcase & elevate Bay Area queer talent. Our programming aims to create safe and accessible environments that celebrate the queer community, especially queer and trans people of color. Our organization was created to showcase performances that are boundary pushing, provocative, and unique to the sensibility of the Bay Area. We aim to stay true to the history of Oakland as a home to creative renaissance rooted in diversity. We hope that by amplifying and supporting the queer art community in the Bay Area, we can emphasize the need for investment in the arts in the face of systemic racism, growing economic disparities, and the Bay Area housing crisis.
