Who are we?

We are a service partner of Dr. Thomas D. Lyon's Child Interviewing Lab at USC's Gould Law School, a nationally-recognized program optimizing protocols for forensic interviewing of abused and neglected children.

What do we do?

The mobileCAC of Los Angeles, Inc. (dba ‘The Mobile Child Interviewing Lab’) conducts cost-free forensic interviews of abused children in L.A. County. The testimonies of these young victims are a vital part of the evidence that law enforcement detectives, social workers and prosecuting attorneys use when investigating their cases. Cases involving 'in-custody' suspects require timely filings of charges, and the mobile delivery of victim interviews are an efficient way to support them.

How do we do it?

The forensic interviews and advocacy services we provide are conveniently conducted at the requesting agency's own location - the police station, the social worker's or attorney's office or another location (e.g. hospital). This approach eliminates the need for detectives investigating cases of child abuse to schedule and coordinate the transportation of victims and their families to separate physical locations to receive these urgent services. It is our intent to make our services as accessible, convenient, comfortable and transparent as possible.

We are trying to raise our first $50,000 to meet the following immediate funding needs;

$12,000 to fund our first 80, 2-hour forensic interviews at $75/hour
$6,000 to fund our first 80, 2-hour advocacy sessions with the victims' families at $35/hour
$6,000 to purchase 3 laptops, auxiliary cameras, microphones and recording software
$4,000 to fund 160 hours of driver/technician compensation at $25/hour
$4,000 in workers' compensation and general liability insurance
$3,500 to wrap the mobile unit with our branding and marketing information
$2,000 to purchase furniture and accessories for the mobile interview room
$2,000 to recoup the costs associated with initial legal formation
$1,250 for recurring administrative expenses, including stationary & supplies and child support items
$1,250 for a 1-year QuickBooks accounting subscription

The remaining $8,000 will provide support for sustainability and growth.

You will be supporting professionally-trained Forensic Interview Specialists and Family Advocates!

Our forensic interviewers and family advocates receive ongoing training on a variety of topics pertinent to the services they provide. Recurring training is victim-centered, trauma-informed, and evidence-based. It includes optimizing interviewing skills and techniques, providing updates of research-based forensic interview protocols, interviewer and advocate peer review, sexual assault counseling, and trauma awareness training -- including the ability to identify symptoms of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. All staff have educational backgrounds in subjects relevant to their roles, such as forensic psychology and therapeutic counseling.
