Celebrating Montgomery

Support YSRP’s Juvenile Lifer Client-Partners: Thriving After Montgomery

On January 25, 2016, the Supreme Court’s decision in Montgomery v. Louisiana gave hope to more than 2,000 Juvenile Lifers across the country.

No city was more impacted by this decision than Philadelphia, where over 200 people who were once sentenced to die in prison as children are now home. Many are thriving—leading with purpose, contributing to their communities, and living full lives with dignity.

YSRP’s work centers on providing pathways for healing, leadership, and connection. Through initiatives like the Intergenerational Healing Circle, young Black men and former Juvenile Lifers come together to heal from trauma, build shared power, and develop leadership rooted in liberation. Similarly, the Speakers Bureau amplifies the voices of young people and former Juvenile Lifers, empowering them to share their stories of resilience and transformation. These sacred stories educate, heal, and inspire change in individuals, communities, and systems.

Your support makes this vital work possible. By donating, you help us celebrate new beginnings for those now home, continue advocating for those still waiting, and ensure programs like the Intergenerational Healing Circle and Speakers Bureau flourish. Together, we can honor the promise of Montgomery and create lasting change.
