We enable locally driven decision-making about resource use, management and protection, and capacity needs, and we support governments and managers in marine spatial planning, conservation goal setting and assessment, and implementation of marine management planning.

Our work, in collaboration with diverse community members, scientists, educators, policy professionals and entrepreneurs includes the following:

Habitat and fish surveys to establish baselines and assess reef health, resilience potential, diversity and general ecological framework
Genetics research/tools to look at population structure, connectivity, adaptation, species identification

OPOR works closely with communities to give them a leadership role in their conservation/management planning and implementation, and to facilitate giving them a voice on a regional, national and international scale. We work collaboratively to highlight traditional knowledge, and/or to support its reconstruction.
