One Night Without A Bed - Kickoff Virtual Event

Live Stream
We are launching our One Night Without A Bed campaign on November 30th with a live-streamed event on Facebook and challenging people to give up their beds for One Night in December in solidarity with the 4.2 million young people around the world who experience homelessness each year. The campaign ends on December 30th. Our goal is to raise awareness of the youth homelessness crisis and raise funds so that we may continue to provide young people with critical resources, safety, and support during a time where our services are needed now more than ever. Participants can sleep in a tent, a car, the couch—anywhere but a bed. Make themselves uncomfortable for One Night, challenge their friends to do the same, and spread the word so that a young person can have a warm place to sleep at night and access to the resources that they need to live out their full potential. This annual campaign cannot compare to the grim realities that youth experiencing homelessness face every day. This is not a simulation— it is a call to action. This is about basic human rights, accountability, and service. Together, we can send a message to these young people — who have so often been ignored — that we care and continue to be committed to equity and justice.
Story
Detroit Phoenix Center (DPC) is a nonprofit organization that responds to the needs of underserved and street-connected youth in Detroit. DPC supports young people, ages 13-24, through direct services, including a daily drop-in center for young adults (showers, washer/dryer, food pantry, computer lab, day beds, hygiene products, life skills classes, etc.), afterschool enrichment programs for teens, youth action board, emergency crisis housing, and a scholarship fund. DPC also works diligently for systemic change and contributes to the growing movement to end youth homelessness.
Detroit Phoenix Center was named a COVID-19 Hero by Crain's Detroit Business and Corp! Magazine this year by providing critical resource, safety, and support to those affected most by the Coronavirus Pandemic. In March, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we shifted into high gear providing a continuum of COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Services.
