Make a Gift and Join Us in Empowering Harrisonburg’s Youth!
As On the Road Collaborative continues to grow, we’re so grateful for our amazing supporters who make our work and impact possible. For over six years, we’ve created a safe and welcoming environment for more than 900 Harrisonburg youth by providing equal access to educational opportunities and hands-on career experiences outside of the traditional school day.
Your donation to this year’s Promise Campaign, our major annual community fundraising effort, will help us continue to close the learning gap that so many of our youth experience and set them on the road to college and a career.
As many of you know, this past spring we achieved an important milestone as we celebrated our first class of graduating high school seniors. We have no doubt that these youth are on the path to realize their promise and that their experiences with On the Road will help them achieve their goals and make a difference in the world.
Your generous gift will help youth in our community realize what it means to have a bright future.
One On the Road youth, Sailuh, has been with us since the very beginning as a fifth grader at Skyline Middle School. Today, Sailuh is a senior in high school and feels that On the Road, especially our Career Enrichment Courses like Emerging Chefs, have helped her figure out her true passion: cooking!
Kristi Van Sickle, our Emerging Chefs Coordinator, shared about Sailuh’s experiences and growth:
“Over the past six years, it has been awesome to not only see Sailuh grow as a chef but also as a person, watching her confidence grow and leadership emerge. Sailuh is very confident with her cooking skills in the kitchen. She loves to try new things, has a lot of knowledge about dishes from all over the world, and is great at adapting and improvising recipes.”
As a supporter, you are not only helping our youth prepare for their future, but also building skills and confidence so that they can leave us at the end of their high-school career feeling empowered to make their own decisions and go after their biggest goals. Sailuh shared how On the Road has really helped her believe in herself:
“For the future, I want to do culinary, of course. That’s like my main thing. But I want to get a business degree so I can make my own business. It’s going to be a lot of work, but it’s worth it.”
Thank you for making a promise to our youth like Sailuh with a donation today! We could not do this work without you.
