On Your Mark Tutoring

Thanks to a partnership between the Rockport-Fulton ISD and OnYourMark Education, students at Live Oak Learning Center are making significant gains in literacy — and their success stories are inspiring the entire community.

This spring, OnYourMark’s targeted tutoring program provided one-on-one and small-group reading support to first- and second-grade students who were struggling to meet grade-level benchmarks. The results have been remarkable.

“RFISD is incredibly data driven. They care deeply for ensuring their students have the opportunities in front of them that grade level reading offers. The hard work and dedication of the team at Live Oak set our OnYourMark tutors up to do what they do best, support struggling readers to grow their skills and confidence!” said Mindy Sjoblom, founder and CEO of OnYourMark Education.

Students who entered the program reading below grade level are now catching up — and in some cases, surpassing expectations. Teachers report stronger fluency, improved comprehension, and, perhaps most importantly, a newfound excitement about learning.

Denise Poland, principal at Live Oak Learning Center, has seen the difference firsthand:

“OnYourMark tutoring drives high growth through targeted, engaging instruction supporting foundational literacy skills. It is personalized for each individual student, maximizing their time for learning in each virtual session. It was exciting to see the growth of our students in a short window of time.”

Brittani Tidwell, instructional coach at LOLC, added:

“OnYourMark tutoring turns the starting line into a launch pad--where learning is engaging and always student-centered.”

Funding for the tutoring program came from the Rockport-Fulton Education Foundation, which is committed to expanding the program to reach even more students, and the Margaret Sue Rust Foundation.

"The most important gift we can give our children is the ability to read,” said Paulette Kluge, RFEF Board President.

The success at Live Oak Learning Center is just the beginning. Many more students across Rockport-Fulton ISD need targeted literacy support to reach their full potential.
