Lawrence P has been incarcerated for seven years. His daughter is also seven, just a few months old when he went to prison. “Being a father means everything — protector, guidance, somebody your daughter can rely on,” he says.
When Lawrence first heard about the Father-Daughter Dance, he felt anxious but grateful. “I took my niece to a father-daughter dance before, and I always wondered if I’d ever get the chance to take my own daughter. Now I’ve got the opportunity.”
Because most of their connection has come through phone calls and visitations, every moment together is meaningful. “Our relationship is solid — she talks to me about everything,” he says. Wearing a suit beside her will make the night even more significant: “It gives you a sense of authority, importance. And I’ll be the first man she dresses up and dances with.”
What he wants her to remember most is simple: “That daddy loves her, despite the situation, and we’ll make the best of it.”
Give today to help Lawrence share an unforgettable night with his daughter!
