Founded in 1954 as a humble downtown Houston homeless shelter and soup kitchen, Open Door Mission has grown into a Christ-centered refuge where broken lives are restored through God’s love and grace. What began with serving hot meals and offering a safe place to sleep has become a comprehensive ministry of mind, body, and spirit — meeting urgent needs while addressing the root causes of addiction and homelessness.

Today, through our DoorWay Recovery Program, Educational and Job Readiness initiatives, we equip men with the tools, training, and biblical truth they need to experience lasting transformation. Every class taught, every meal served, and every bed offered is an opportunity to point men to the ultimate hope found in Jesus Christ.

Our mission is anchored in the promise of Revelation 3:8 — “See, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut.” At Open Door Mission, that “open door” is more than just our name — it is a spiritual reality. Here, men discover that no matter their past, God offers a new beginning, a renewed mind, and a redeemed future.
