OURS Evangeline

Help Us Fight for Evangeline 🐾

Donate to help save Evangeline — and you could win an original print by the incredibly talented Johnny Heim (@art_by_heim). But first, meet our girl.

Some rescues find you when you least expect it. That's exactly what happened with Evangeline (SBC #A590958).

She caught our eye while scrolling at an unusual hour — her face so reminiscent of a dog we already loved. Hours later, one of our most trusted fosters sent us her picture, heartbroken over her story. Evangeline had been kenneled with dogs who attacked her repeatedly, was battling an antibiotic-resistant illness, and had been given a deadline. We made the call, sent the email, and brought her home.

She spent her last night in that shelter feeling unloved and like her life had no value. That was her last night feeling that way.

The road since has been anything but easy.

Within hours of coming home, Evangeline was admitted to the emergency hospital with pneumonia. She was lethargic, bleeding from several areas, and barely holding on. But even in her weakest moments, she rested her head on her foster mama Shawna's shoe — and we knew this girl had so much love left to give.

Since then, she has been fighting. She is eating, keeping her medications down, and responding to treatment — including nebulizer therapy to help her breathe. But this week brought devastating news: Evangeline has tested positive for distemper, mycoplasma, and canine herpes. A trifecta no dog — especially one who has already been through so much — should ever have to face.

Her attending vet believes her prognosis is decent given her response to treatment so far. And as long as Evangeline tells us she wants to fight, we will fight with her.
