One of the values that we hold at Theater Alaska is to pay artists a professional wage. The actors, set, sound, and costume designers, composers, stage managers, musicians, coaches, choreographers, dancers, carpenters, and directors of our shows have always been paid. We have been able to offer them an average of $550 for their work on a full production like Pride and Prejudice and A Christmas Carol. For the scores of hours of work that goes into each production, we wish to deliver to our performers greater security in their lives for the art they create for you and all of our neighbors. To that end, we are proud to announce the founding of The Ovation Fund. We are campaigning to raise $30,000 between now and August 31st. If we are able to meet that goal, then we will be able to pay our actors an average of $750.
The Ovation Fund exists for one reason: to let community members like yourself support the work of the artists you see walking down our streets every day. Each and every one of them has at least one, and often two, other jobs to support their story-telling, dream-building, world-shaping work they present to you and all of Juneau. We want them to be taken care of, and we think you do too.
Gaining our 501(c)(3) status was meant to open a wide world of funding opportunities for us, and to a degree it has, but many of the grants we had our eyes on have been undone by policy changes we are now adjusting for. With your help, we can make sure our friends and neighbors who hone their craft can keep their lights on, their rent paid, and their freezers stocked. More than any of that, it will help them know that they are appreciated by their community and fill them with the same warmth and recognition as a standing ovation.
Give to the Theater Alaska Ovation Fund today and help us hit our goal of $30,000.
