Dance Project of Washington Heights is built on the belief that when we come together in true community, we can change the world. We believe in the power of dance, the power of children, and the power of connection.

Inside the walls of DPWH you can see a slice of what we envision for the world. You can see children celebrated for who they are. You can see them being mentored and supported. Given access to the ability to express themselves through dance and artistry. You can see talented and diverse faculty. They care deeply about giving each student the skills they need to become dancers and to excel at anything. You can see parents connecting with each other. They are learning about each other’s lives and offering each other support. And you see all of them coming together to contribute to the vision.

It’s been a tough year. The difficulties sometimes seem impossible to overcome. But the evidence that we can, and that we will do it together, is overwhelming. Here are just a few examples:

Estefano Torres is fixing up our space with materials donated by Home Depot and Wallauer Paint
At least 20 parents and community members came together to help paint
Donate2Dance and Treinawear donated all the leotards for our Junior Ensemble’s performance at Cipriani for NYP Hospital
Wanda Moret raised money from friends and neighbors for a new rug
Ever, our Assistant Manager, travels all the way from Long Island every day to support our students and parents with a smile for each kid and a patient listening ear
Shea, age 6, asked what he could do to be helpful. He mopped the entire floor of Studio 2!
