Be The Joy Foundation is a local Delco non-profit established in 2020 on a mission to spread joy - lifting our community up and bringing them together - one act of kindness at a time. We started with gifting out over $30,000 in December 2020 all over Delco $100 cash at a time to over 300 restaurant industry workers put out of work due to the shutdowns. Now we are an official 501c3 on a community wide mission!

We are thrilled to say this goal of paying off student lunch debt was just recently achieved for THREE Delco School Districts. Be The Joy delivered funds to:

Rose Tree Media School District : $2700.19 covering ALL 150 students.

Penn Delco School District: $6597 covering ALL 344 students with lunch debt.

Marple Newtown School District: $5480.74 covering ALL 273 with lunch debt + adding $2000 across student accounts experiencing lunch debt due to a recent family hardship + $1000 in grocery gift cards for the district to distribute to families as needed!

Chichester School District: $3470.00 covering all seniors with overdue fees so that ALL seniors in the Class of 2023 are able to participate in the milestone event of walking at graduation!

This was only made possible with support from the community and local business sponsors so we are hoping you will join us in doing the same for Ridley School District!

Ridley School District includes Elementary Schools: Leedom, Woodlyn, Edgewood, Eddystone, Amosland, Grace Park, Lakeview, Ridley Middle School and Ridley High School.

While we wait on exact lunch debt #s for the district we are getting it going with the goal of $6500.00 based on the size of the district encompassing 9 schools & roughly 5,544 students!

* in the event of extra funds - we will add money to student accounts experiencing lunch insecurity due to a family hardship/circumstance (ex: loss of a parent or major illness in immediate family member)

Be The Joy kicks off each district with funding raised for this specific purpose. BTJ has allotted $700 from current funds to this worthy cause right off the bat - bringing the fundraising goal to $6,000! These funds made possible by our incredible business sponsors & community supporters!

We are always grateful for local businesses that JOY’n us in reaching this goal .. those business names will appear here!

This goal is important to us to accomplish as a community since the Universal School Meals Program Act ended this year which previously ensured that every child had free lunch regardless of income after the onset of the pandemic brought more food insecurity to homes. While the school district does not allow any child without funds to go hungry - we hope to alleviate this burden from the students and their families.

 *Donations can also be made through VENMO to @bethejoyfoundation - all offline donations will be added to this campaign to update the community on our goal!
