The Venice Heritage Foundation is proud to continue our partnership for year four of the AZZ-IS VENICE REBEL.JAZZ.FEST!
AZZ-IS is the very first full-scale "Alternative Jazz Festival" in Venice history.
The event is produced and presented by THE NONSEMBLE CREATIVE COLLECTIVE, a Venice-based organization, founded by Creative Artistic Director, Jason Sugars, a fourth-generation Venetian.
Growing up in his family shop on West Washington Blvd. Jason spent a good amount of time at the Azz Izz jazz club and social hub two blocks away…
The full name of that club was the AZZ IZZ JAZZ CLUB CULTURAL CENTER AND TEAHOUSE and it was run by Saxophonist, Billie Harris and his wife, Cookie, out of a small house on the street we now know as Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Though the club is long closed [1970-1978], many in Venice have never forgotten the tribal vibe that drew locals and jazz enthusiasts from all across the L.A. area.
AZZ-IS VENICE REBEL.JAZZ.FEST derives its name and spirit from the original AZZ IZZ.
Your generous donations will help to support the festival, the Venice Heritage Museum, and the community at large, as the AZZ-IS main event is a gift to Venice + our visitors.
We thank you for your support and invite you and your family to join us at this open-air, free, and family-friendly event!
