Harper is the 13 year old daughter of Grundy natives, Dwayne & Amy Owens. She resides in Radford, VA with her parents and older sister, Lauren. Harper was involved in an ATV accident at the Southern Gap Adventure Center on July 6, 2024, while visiting her Uncle & Aunt, Tyler & Heather Ward. Although wearing a helmet, Harper sustained severe trauma to her neck requiring immediate surgery at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, to fuse her C5 & C6 vertebrae. While surgery was successful, it was determined that her spinal cord had suffered extensive damage, leaving her unable to feel below her chest. At this time, Harper is unable to walk and has limited mobility in her arms, hands, and fingers. She is currently recovering at Shepherd’s Center in Atlanta, GA, where she is enrolled in the inpatient rehabilitation program in the SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) Unit, undergoing daily physical, occupational and mental health therapy. All fundraising proceeds will go directly to The Owens family towards medical expenses, handicap accessible home renovations, a wheelchair accessible van and to aid in the cost of living in Atlanta during Harper’s in patient and out patient therapy at Shepherd’s Center.
