Iraq & Kurdistan EM Capacity-Building

Global Response Medicine homepage

Currently, Emergency Medical care in the Kurdish Region of Iraq exists in a fractured state, where individuals must choose whether to present to a “Medical Emergency Department'' where they are treated by internists, or a “Surgical Emergency Department” where they are treated by surgeons. This is contrasted to the standard of care in many other parts of the world where patients may present to a unified “undifferentiated” Emergency Department to be assessed and treated by Board Certified Specialists in Undifferentiated Emergency Medicine and then referred for decisive care, reducing unnecessary testing and exams. In the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), GRM has been invited to build training-of-trainer programs for:

1. Undifferentiated Emergency Medicine

2. Point-of-Care Ultrasound training (POCUS)

3. Emergency Medicine residency programs

Your support will directly contribute to the realization and professionalization of undifferentiated emergency medicine in Kurdistan, Iraq.
