Beneficiaries & implementation goals:
The main objective of the project is to implement therapeutic hypothermia in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Los Angeles Children's Hospital Foundation. This specialized treatment aims to improve medical care and reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality in cases of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. The direct beneficiaries will be newborns who have this condition and require this therapy to improve their neurological prognosis and reduce long-term sequelae. In addition, indirectly, their families will benefit by having a cutting-edge treatment that gives them hope and better results in the care of their children.
The implementation of the project requires the acquisition of 3 special biomedical equipment: Hypothermia generating equipment, integrated amplitude electroencephalography equipment, and cerebral saturation monitoring equipment using near-infrared spectroscopy.
