A Tribute to Patricia “Pat” Kosman: A Life of Love, Faith, and Service

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude that we honor the life of Patricia "Pat" Kosman, who passed away in Bear, Delaware. Pat's warmth, strength, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and we invite you to remember and celebrate the extraordinary woman she was.

Pat is survived by her devoted daughters, Christine (wife of Todd McGarvey of Springfield, Pennsylvania) and Mary (wife of Junshik Moon of Korea), as well as her beloved granddaughter Brigid McGarvey, lovingly known as "Little Miss." She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Joseph Kosman, and her parents, John and Anne Foran.

A woman of deep faith, Pat lived her life as a testament to love, service, and sacrifice. She earned her B.A. in Theology and Sociology from Fordham University and went on to receive her nursing degree from Baystate Medical Center. Pat's intellect and heart for service led her to become a member of Mensa International and to serve as a leader in the Marriage Encounter program for over 20 years. Her dedication to her faith community was evident in her years spent teaching the Rite of Christian Initiation at Immaculate Conception Church.

Pat’s faith was her guiding light, particularly in the most challenging moments of her life. As a mother, she gave everything to her daughters and granddaughter, especially when they needed her the most. She was more than a caregiver; she was a wingman to Christine on her own diagnostic odyssey, standing steadfast by her side through every twist and turn, offering comfort, strength, and hope. Even in her final days, Pat remained Christine’s constant support, never wavering in her love. She wore many hats in service to her family—nurse, advocate, counselor, and friend—all roles she embraced with grace and an unwavering dedication to the well-being of her loved ones.

Pat was a tireless supporter of the Undiagnosed Disease Network (UDN), an organization that helped guide Christine and Brigid through their own health challenges. Her belief in the UDN's mission to provide answers and hope to families in need was steadfast, and her voice, even in her last days, championed the importance of the work being done to support those still searching for answers.

Christine shared the following in a moving tribute to her mother: “My mom was a woman of deep faith who believed in God, and today our hearts find peace knowing she has been welcomed into our Father’s house. Years ago, my mom discovered that her birth name was Faith, and it feels fitting that she is now finally home with her Father. Over this past year, we shared so many moments that we had missed in the past—hugs, 'I love you's,' and precious time together. As I became her caregiver, I learned more about love, forgiveness, and how to be the best version of myself. Mom, caring for you was the greatest honor of my life.”

Pat’s quiet, yet powerful love was expressed in her actions—through the sacrifices she made, the faith she shared, and the support she provided to her family. Her legacy of love will continue to shine through the lives of her children and granddaughter.

In memory of Pat and in honor of her courage in facing the unknown, we invite you to support the Undiagnosed Disease Network Foundation (UDNF). This organization seeks to provide answers and hope for individuals and families living with undiagnosed diseases, a cause that Pat believed in deeply.

Pat's life was a gift to all who knew her, and while she may no longer be with us, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Thank you for being a part of her journey and for remembering her in your thoughts and prayers.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?" —John 14:1-2
