It was love at first sight when Patricia toured her soon-to-be home in Phoenix nearly 30 years ago. Built in 1977, the ranch house was small enough for her to clean and large enough to host her grandchildren.

But over time, the house showed its age. Patricia, who has asthma, bundled up in blankets and used portable heaters in winter. Then in late 2022, she got pneumonia and was hospitalized for two weeks.

In summer, her monthly power bills topped $350. Patricia, now 71, knew her home needed major upgrades, but she couldn’t afford it on her fixed income.

The last straw was when her clothes dryer and air conditioner broke early last year. That’s when Patricia found FSL’s home improvement team.
