Holy Family Birth Center has attended 8,438 births in the Rio Grande Valley since 1983. We are not closing — we are doing the hardest thing a 43-year-old institution can do: stopping long enough to rebuild correctly, so we can serve the next 8,438 families better than we served the last.

WHO WE ARE

Holy Family Birth Center in Weslaco, Texas, is the longest licensed free-standing birth center in the State of Texas. We are the only birth center in the entire Rio Grande Valley staffed exclusively by Certified Nurse-Midwives — women who chose this region, these families, and this mission when they could have gone anywhere.

For 43 years, we have served families in Hidalgo and surrounding counties — one of the most medically underserved regions in the United States — regardless of their insurance status, immigration status, or ability to pay. We have never turned a family away for money. That is who we are. That is who we will be when we reopen.

WHERE WE ARE — AND WHY WE ARE TELLING YOU HONESTLY

As of June 2026, Holy Family Birth Center is in a planned, strategic pause in clinical services. We are being direct with you because you deserve honesty — not because we are in distress. Like many community health organizations that emerged from a period of extraordinary demand — and like many nonprofits navigating a national maternal health funding environment that has shifted dramatically — Holy Family reached a decision point: operate through the pressure until something breaks, or stop, rebuild our foundation, and reopen with the infrastructure to serve families for the next four decades. We chose to rebuild.

WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

While clinical services are paused, we are actively:

• Ensuring every mother currently in our care has been safely transitioned to trusted, vetted providers — with warm handoffs, not cold referrals

• Supporting all postpartum families with active care coordination, including home visit follow-up where possible

• Protecting 43 years of medical records and patient privacy with full regulatory compliance

• Rebuilding our financial and administrative infrastructure under board governance and professional guidance

• Actively pursuing reopening— with a stronger model, a diversified funding base, and an expanded care capacity
