I joined the PBI-USA NCC in 2012 because I am passionate about nonviolent peace accompaniment. With direct experience volunteering in Colombia and Mexico, I have seen and heard the stories of people's lives being more secure with this service. When a Human Rights Defender draws attention from bad actors, it's unsettling not only for the HRD but their family as well. The work of accompaniers goes beyond the critical international visibility that most people understand. Accompaniers are also offering emotional solidarity and grounded reminders that "the work you're doing is vital, and the (sometimes very hidden) threats you're experiencing are real."
I hope you'll join me in supporting this incredible work. The current geopolitical environment requires it more than ever!
