Peach Pit- Drivers Education Fund

The Peach Pit Driver Education Fund supports a sustainable, year-round Driver’s Education program for students at Orcas Island High School.

Thanks to $15,000 raised through the Orcas Island Community Foundation’s GiveOrcas campaign, we launched a free pilot program for the 2025–2026 school year. Now, we are building a permanent, community-supported fund so this opportunity can continue long term.

This fund is open for year-round giving. Community members can donate at any time, and parents enrolling their students are invited to contribute as they are able. Beginning next year, we plan to offer a tiered payment system each semester, allowing families who can contribute to do so, while ensuring scholarships remain available for students who need financial support.

Led by Peach Pit in partnership with Skagit 911 Driving School and Orcas Island School District, the program offers weekly virtual classes during the Wednesday elective period each semester. Students gain valuable instruction, earn elective credit, and receive hands-on driving practice. All while overcoming the financial and logistical barriers that often prevent rural students from learning to drive.

If a certified Driving Education provider is ever unavailable, funds will be used for Driver’s Education scholarships so students can still access this essential training.
