A loyal servant, a pair of star-crossed lovers and the blurred lines between this world and the next collide in this Southern Gothic tale. Inspired by the 17th century Japanese ghost story Botan Dōrō, Devin E. Haqq’s new play transplants the action to Reconstruction-era Louisiana in a story of betrayal, greed and a truly eternal love. Can any good ever come from a deal with the devil?

OPEN YOUR EARS: Fiasco’s Open Your Ears (OYE) reading series is the first time Fiasco gets to hear a show read in full for an audience. With an emphasis on language, clarity, and content, OYE is often the first stop for a new Fiasco show, and a place for audiences to get in on the ground floor of our project pipeline.

FIASCO THEATER is an ensemble theater company based in NYC that offers dynamic, joyful, actor-driven productions, and the highest quality, accessible, affordable training for emerging artists. To date the company’s award-winning work has been seen by over 200,000 audience members in NYC, including over 12,000 school children, and The New York Times has called Fiasco “a force to reckon with in the American theater.
