What is PEP-PAC?
The Pennsylvania Emergency Physicians Political Action Committee has been used to represent the interests of emergency medicine in the state capitol for years. It is designed to raise money that we strategically use to benefit our patients and promote our agenda in a bipartisan way.
How does it work?
Physicians and like-minded parties make donations to PEP-PAC. PACEP and our lobbying firm use this money to support our advocacy priorities. At its core, lobbying is a means of educating legislators about issues affecting us. These issues have a real, tangible impact on our profession and patients. We use PEP-PAC funds to engage with legislators regarding ED overcrowding, mental health, opioid legislation, nurse practitioner scope of practice, non-compete contracts, the role of private equity in healthcare, medical malpractice reform and so many more issues that impact us every shift.

PEP-PAC is proud to be bipartisan! We support both Democrats and Republicans. We know that healthcare should be a bipartisan issue and commonly ask both sides of the aisle for support on our issues.

In legislative and regulatory circles, our obligation to advocate for our patients and our specialty can be even more challenging, requiring us to engage with stakeholders with different interests and perspectives. To be effective advocates, we continue to engage with elected representatives and their staff, of all political parties and philosophies, in discourse and discussions about the important issues that impact emergency physicians and our patients.
