Hi, my name is Courtney! I am a volunteer for the Michigan State University chapter. I haven’t started my volunteering with Perfect Pair just yet, but I am extremely excited too! I have had great grandparents in assisted living homes and got to experience what each day was like for them when visiting for short periods at a time. I quickly noticed how lonely the times could get, thinking to myself who do they play games with? Watch movies with? Or even just share their random thoughts too? Now while they each had their friends that lived in the same building, their life was incomparable to the one I live today. They don’t have easy access to go do the things they used to when they were my age. Even though you get older you should still have just as many opportunities to have fun, hangout with friends, and enjoy your life! I look forward to hanging out with my friends and family each week, understanding residents may not get that opportunity as easily as encouraging me to be that company for them! I think connecting with the older population is super interesting, it not only expands your perspective on life but you can learn so much. I am excited to keep the residents company, get to know them, and allow them to have something to look forward to each week!
