Why do animals in Ukraine need help?

When war knocks on the door, people tend to think of other humans first, and that’s understandable. However pets are equally vulnerable in face of the war atrocities, and worse than that, often get neglected during such stressful times. Some pets get abandoned when their humans flee the war zone, stray animals and shelters get forgotten by their usual helpers, the remaining veterinarian clinics are overwhelmed by the demand. What will we do to help Ukrainian animals?

We will use all the raised money to reduce animal suffering in the near-front towns and liberated villages, in collaboration with dedicated local volunteers focused on animal needs in Ukraine. Pet food will be purchased and distributed among stray animals that are unfortunately abundant in Ukraine. Animal shelters, that are still operating near the war zones or are rebuilding after invasion, will be provided with operating supplies (food, hygiene), and construction materials for restoration (wood, glass, metal). Veterinarian clinics will be supported with animal medications and medical supplies to support pets and animals from low-income population. Want to do your part? Sunflower Seeds Ukraine is an all-volunteer organization that responds flexibly and efficiently to the most urgent needs in the hottest war zones in Ukraine. We stay agile due to our small size, multinational team, and direct on-site contacts that we developed in 2014-2015 and adopted to the new realities in 2022.
