Every day in Minneapolis is a struggle. The situation here is really, really bad - worse than people realize. The illegal occupation by ICE has upended everyday life and thrown a city of 3.6 million people into fear, anxiety, and embittered, determined resistance. They terrorize and detain citizens, non-citizens - anyone who happens to get in their way. They abduct our neighbors from grocery stores, gas stations, schools, bus stops, restaurants, churches, and hospitals. The reality of life in Minneapolis is that everyone is at risk of beating, arrest, or murder at the hands of ICE agents with no regard for law or human rights. But every day since December 1st, our community has stood together, even while oppressed and abused, even at the height of a frigid Minnesota winter with rent due soon. (A high of -10° F and a feels like of -40° F is... pretty cold.)
Amid all this, many families in our community have been forced into hiding. Like everyone here, they hide because they're afraid that despite their legal status, they'll be separated from their loved ones forever. Unable to leave their homes, children are missing school, adults are unable to work, and families cannot buy groceries or basic necessities. So we've been feeding them. They have guns - we have each other.
Please help us
Minnesota needs your help. Raising funds for a small local Title I (low-income) public elementary school is hard. We don't have the resources of larger schools and we have many students with needs. Every week our small, scrappy team shops, organizes, packs, coordinates, and distributes food, basic necessities, and school supplies to families who have nowhere else to turn. Because we have no overhead and are 100% volunteer-operated, every single cent of every donation goes directly to food and necessities for scared, innocent children and families.
Please donate and pass this link along to the good people you know. Solidarity forever.
