What's this? Did you say a pool?!

Yes, you read that right. Camp Northward is building a pool for Summer Camp 2023.

Why are you building a pool?

We have several reasons. Here are a few:

Safety: right now, Deans and faculty members take campers offsite to Kincaid Lake State Park's pool. While this is exciting, we are sure you can imagine the safety factors that must be considered when taking a group of campers to a public pool.
Costs: currently, Deans use a significant part of their weekly budget on taking campers to Kincaid Lake if they want to offer campers the opportunity to swim, which is a hallmark activity for most summer camps. Having a pool on campus will save costs over time while also making the camp more attractive for potential campers.
Staying at camp: a huge component of the Camp Northward experience is the idea of "getting away from it all", the ability to have a spiritual retreat where campers can focus on the Word of God and spend valuable time with each other and their faculty. It's in this spirit of respecting the camp atmosphere that we wish to keep campers here for the entirety of their session.

Aren't you in the middle of a capital campaign? Why are you building a pool on top of that?

Long story short, we have reached a point where we need to take both long-term and short-term steps in order for the camp to do well and keep moving forward. The 10,000 Reasons Capital Campaign covers all the funds we need long-term, including funds for redoing the drive, expanding the Pavilion and building the kitchen.

At the same time, we need to facilitate short-term projects such as this one to keep the camp attractive and updated for both current and new campers and their families.

In other words, you can consider these short-term projects as small "spinoffs" from our full campaign. Both forms of fundraising are important. Small projects like this one will ensure we keep good care of our current campus while still saving for the bigger projects that will take years to complete.

Where will it be located?

The pool will be located in the athletic field next to the Cedar Lodge dorm.

What kind of pool will it be?

This will be an above-ground pool.

Okay. So how much do you need?

If we can fundraise $10,000 total through this fundraiser, we will be successful in this fundraiser.

When will the pool be built?

Construction begins soon. We are planning on the pool being complete for campers to enjoy for Summer Camp 2023.
