Potencia was founded by two non-native English speakers who experienced firsthand both the barriers language creates and the doors that open when those barriers are removed. That lived experience shapes our work every day and grounds our belief that language access is about far more than words. It is about dignity, opportunity, and belonging.

For Potencia, success is more than teaching English. It means immigrant adults have the skills, confidence, and support to pursue opportunity, advocate for themselves, and feel belonging. It also means neighbors volunteering as tutors gain empathy and ways to contribute, creating civic bridges across communities.
