Many years ago, I was talking with the mom of a high schooler. She was sharing with me about taking her son to Pride for the first time. After the parade, they were driving home, and he shared with his mom, “this was the best day of my life.” A bit surprised, but curious, she asked, “why is that?”, and he shared that it was the first time he could be gay all day long.
I believe in Pride for him, and all those out there who get to be gay all day long. Today, we are at another crucial nexus point, where LGBTQAI+ rights are being litigated, Drag races and queer art are being banned, and basic human rights are on the line.
Whether you come to Pride because of the first brick thrown at Stonewall, or the high schooler who gets to be gay all day, or simply to have a great time with friends and community, I hope you would consider donating to help keep the tradition alive.
This year I am volunteering with Pride in Dallas because I believe visibility matters. Pride belongs on the streets, not hidden away. Join us September 15th, 2024!
