We understand that Latino communities are not monolithic and that cultural traditions, beliefs, and moral values inform how communities interact with systems that dictate health. We also understand that population health issues are best addressed by communities directly impacted by social, political, and economic factors. 

Founded in 2021, Prospera Institute is an early-stage independent research organization exploring ethical questions in public health at the intersections of race culture, ethicity and social justice. We envision a world of health prosperity for communities within the LatinX diaspora including persons who identfify as Latino, Black and Indigenous in the Commonwealth and beyond. Our mission is catalyzed through research, education and social action; engaging Latino, Black and Indigenous communities in advancing health equity.  

The institute's work started as the LatinX Bioethics grassroots coalition in March 2019 at the Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics by four students led by Joanne Suarez.
